Winter Canoe Build 06: Staking Down

October 17, 2020 - Belfast, ME

I didn’t have any of the stakes from last year’s construction, so I went to work fashioning some scrap wood into stakes for the bottom sills. With Grandpa Sal’s mallet in-tow, I made a handful of stakes before its old handle gave way in my hands. Note: the virgin forest floor is certainly not level. The back-left drops off nearly a foot from the front-right (last two photos, respectively)—which only posed tedious as one person doing the “lining off” and leveling the site!
